“I still prefer the anonymity. I’ve spent some time working with a non-Italian designer; I’ve been helping him organize fashion shows, the advertising and also helping with the creative part. But the greatest part about this work is that I am no one…” –Allegra Versace (1)
On this day in 2004, Allegra Versace inherited 50% of Versace, making her and her mother Donatella major shareholders. Allegra was only 18 years old when she inherited half of her family’s empire, which was founded in 1978 by her uncle Gianni Versace. Allegra also has the last say of the sale and other important details in the Versace clothing line. In an interview, Allegra stated she had been quietly learning the family trade by spending time in designer’s studios.
Versace frequently uses celebrities for their advertisements, including Madonna, Ashton Kutcher, Demi Moore, Britney Spears, and many more. There are several lines that make up Versace: Atelier Versace, Versace Couture, Versace Sports, Versace Home Collection, Versace Jeans Couture, Versace Collection, Young Versace and Versus. In addition to clothing and accessories, it also operates a hotel, the Palazzo Versace. Versace’s Style Department employs a group of designers and stylists who work in teams. Each team is specifically dedicated to each fashion line or label and receives guidance and supervision from Donatella Versace.
